Patrick Craenhals

Patrick Craenhals assumed control of the family company, Belgian Scrap Terminal NV, in the 1980s, marking the third generation in the family business that originated with textile sorting in Willebroek, Belgium, in 1922. Upon assuming the presidency of BST, he spearheaded the company’s significant international expansion, employing a visionary approach that transformed it into a global player in the metals recycling industry.

Under his guidance, the Belgian Scrap Terminal Group gained recognition as a prominent supplier of ferrous scrap in the international market, establishing itself as a reliable provider to the steel industry.

Patrick Craenhals actively participated in IREPAS meetings for almost two decades, representing one of Europe’s foremost metal scrap recycling companies. He was a consistent member of the IREPAS Raw Material Suppliers Committee.

IREPAS expresses deep regret and sorrow at the passing of Patrick Craenhals in October 2023 at the age of 72.

Caroline Craenhals reflects on her father’s legacy, stating, “My father was a pioneer in the metal recycling industry. With unwavering dedication and visionary leadership, he transformed the metal recycling landscape with inspiring sustainable practices. Patrick’s legacy will continue to shine, and his memory will forever be cherished by all those whose lives he touched.”
