On March 21 this year, Morocco’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and New Technologies had announced that Turkey was exempt from the safeguard measure along with developing countries. On the other hand, China is listed among the developing countries who are exempt from the safeguard measure.

The Moroccan Ministry of Industry, Trade and New Technologies imposed an overall import quota of 60,000 mt for wire rods and 100,000 mt of reinforcing bars until the end of 2014, and of 66,000 mt for wire rods and 110,000 mt for reinforcing bars until the end of 2015.

The ministry’s decision foresees a safeguard measure of MAD 550 ($67) per metric ton for the countries exceeding the annual quota.

The products subject to the safeguard measure currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 7213919000, 7214209000 and 7214999100.
